A postwoman has sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a dangerous dog whilst delivering mail in the Sheffield Waterthorpe area of Hilltop Crescent. She was immediately taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The Royal Mail and CWU member, endured bites to her face, arms and legs, on Wednesday, March 23. Police have confirmed that the dog was seized by officers and remains in kennels while enquiries continue.

Her employer, Royal Mail was quoted in the local press as saying they will "always seek prosecution" in cases where members of the public fail to control their dog and it causes injury to an employee.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said:

"Royal Mail treats all dog attacks on our postmen and postwomen very seriously. Our first priority as an employer is to ensure the welfare and safety of our people who provide a valuable service to our customers.

We will always seek prosecution, either through the police or by taking legal action ourselves, in circumstances where we believe a member of the public has failed to control their dog so that it causes injury to a colleague going about their duties."

Referring specifically to the incident, they said:

"We are aware of an incident involving a Royal Mail employee in the Waterthorpe area of Sheffield on Wednesday. Whilst this remains an ongoing police investigation we are unable to comment further."
